Information Systems Manager
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
Position Summary:
The Information Systems Manager provides direction and leadership in advancing the use of information technology to the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. These technologies include projects and applications in computing, networks, office automation, and telecommunications.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Manage MIS operations to achieve goals within available resources.
- Responsible for maintenance of operational communication systems, both voice and data.
- Document all information systems assets (hardware, software, licensing agreements, etc.) and maintain a resource center of manuals, reference and training materials.
- Develop and maintain SLSO information systems including fundraising, ticketing, general ledger, human resources, e-mail, remote access, internet access, and remote networking.
- Assess emerging technology for its impact on SLSO operations.
- Provide leadership and direction in developing long and short-term information systems projects; complete feasibility studies.
- Coordinate management staff, and outside MIS consultants and vendors as needed.
- Prepare annual information systems operational and capital budget requests.
- Development specifications, solicit proposals and perform technology purchasing for all departments.
- Coordinate organizational efforts in the area of Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity planning.
- Provide professional IS advice; make presentations to supervisors; communicate official plans, policies and procedures to staff.
- Direct service and maintenance of system-related software of networks, and intra- and inter-networking resources; installation of system hardware, software, peripheral devices and related items; diagnose computer problems and make repairs and perform equipment upgrades.
- Direct development and implementation of needed security measures, back-up procedures and software standards (including PCI standards).
Position Requires:
- Minimum five+ years of progressively responsible related experience.
- Equivalent to a complete four year college or university education in the area of computer science or a related field.
- Considerable knowledge of modern data processing practices, management principles of information systems, office automation and computerized financial applications, local and wide area networking, server and desktop computing.
- Experience in the following types of software: fundraising and/or ticketing, accounting systems, human resources, database, networking software, utilities, programming languages, communications, multimedia, and internet software.
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office; including, Word, Excel, Access, & Outlook (MCSE Certification preferred).

Director of Corporate Sales
REPORTS TO: Vice President for Marketing
Position Summary:
The Director of Corporate Sales is responsible for managing the corporate sales/sponsorship programs and activities for all such agreements for the SLSO. The position is responsible for developing revenue goals, creating and implementing sponsorship levels and opportunities and ensuring that significant community outreach and networking is achieved to develop and convert sponsorship opportunities that meet the overall revenue goals for the organization. Works collaboratively with other managers and senior staff, manages sponsorship sales position, leading the team towards consistent success in retaining and securing new sponsors for the organization.
Essential Functions Include:
- Development of annual plan, with quarterly projections prospect initiatives
- Identify and pursue sponsorable product and opportunities for sponsors to collaborate with the organization, ensuring that all proposals are accurate and provide achievable and valuable benefits to both parties
- Ensure that sponsorship descriptions and benefit levels are accurately maintained and valued on an annual basis, updating yearly and/or modifying as product changes or business environment demands,
- Participate in conversion of targets into sponsors via sales calls, existing partnership growth and networking
- Ensure that value and customer service are delivered at all levels, working with internal team to deliver on benefits and with sponsors to ensure that benefits are clearly stated, reasonably expected and accurately reported
- Maintain all sponsorship contracts files and balance of benefits offers
- Responsible for developing and communicating sponsorship revenue expectations to the VP of Marketing and the SLSO finance department, presenting on same if/when required
- Manage, recommend and update sponsorship valuation process for the organization
- Ensure that sponsorship team has appropriate sales tools, training, valuations and opportunities to succeed
- Recommend and implement sponsor retention and growth plans for each sponsor as appropriate
- Develop and manage sponsorship team budget, reporting quarterly on same
- Scheduling of Sponsorship team staff members to ensure coverage of all sponsorship related events
Position Requires:
- Proven ability to plan and monitor revenue stream growth and significant creativity in managing development and valuation of new opportunities and negotiation of flexible sponsorship benefits to meet the needs of both the sponsors and the organization to ensure stability and future growth.
- Equivalent to a complete 4 year college education, preferably in Business Management, Communications, Marketing or Arts Administration.
- Minimum 6-8 years of sales and marketing experience
- A strong sales background is desired with proven track record of developing sponsor programs and retention.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to solicit and convert sales opportunities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a comfort level with public speaking and cold-calling.
- Knowledge of classical music and the symphony field preferred. An appreciation for classical music required
- Ability to project a polished and professional image that positively reflects on the organization
- Ability to use a personal computer, with proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet
- Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating with internal and external contacts in a manner using considerable tact required to achieve results.

Director of Major Gifts
REPORTS TO: Vice President for Development
Position Summary:
Responsible for the strategy and management of the Development Department’s individual giving. Directly responsible for staff supervision and general administration of all major gift programs for individuals, foundations, and corporations. Maintains, under the direction of the VP for Development, the SLSO’s Planned Giving program.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Manage prospect portfolio of 75 personal contacts; 100 phone contacts
- Where appropriate, create and customize individual gift prospectus to match Symphony objectives with donor interests
- Attend a minimum of 15 concerts annually
- Follow policies and procedures for the following:
- Planned giving program
- Prospect tracking/”moves management” system, including call reports, Tickler reports, etc.
- Prospect ranking system for individuals and institutions
- Staff Coordinator system
- Prospect research, incl. reference library, basic research, briefing reports for major solicitations
- Supervise staff of 2 professionals and one support staff member
- Oversee select donor committee efforts (e.g. Doctors and Scientists for the Symphony)
Position Requires:
- Minimum five years development experience, including supervision of staff, working with board members and volunteers and budgeting
- Proven fundraising success soliciting gifts over $10,000
- Equivalent experience to a Master’s degree.
- Technical knowledge of the laws related to donations, computer-based management tools and planned giving practices
- Superior writing and presentation skills

Group Sales Manager
REPORTS TO: Vice President for Marketing
Position Summary:
The Group Sales Manager is a full-time staff position responsible for meeting and exceeding the group sales attendance and revenue goals in support of the overall earned income function of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. The Group Sales Manager is responsible for planning and implementation of sales strategies, pricing and program development for Group Sales based on assigned segment(s), as well as implementation of tactical plans required to sustain and grow relationships with group leaders in the local and regional area.
The primary method of accomplishing these goals is through focused planning, creative thinking, aggressive outbound sales calls and a commitment to excellent service.
Essential Functions Include:
- Solicitation of group sales business
- Working with the Vice President for Marketing and the Director of Ticket Services, develop and implement a program that: retains current group business, creates sales plans for targeting new buyers, research and prospect for new group buyers, manage direct contact with potential group buyers, networking to expand the outbound group sales effort and contacting prospects personally, create personalized and persuasive sales presentation packages, create events and programs that incent group purchase, work with other departments to convert their contact opportunities into group business, advise on required collateral and sales tool kit needs
- Complete and manage group sales events
- Using SLSO ticketing system, complete and seat group sales orders, implement cross-sell and up-sell opportunities to increase average order per group, plan and manage group events and coordinate service elements for all groups attending, including concert duty, bus duty, event planning and pre/post concert event staffing.
Position Requires:
- Broad knowledge of the group and travel/tour company industry involving extensive theoretical knowledge equivalent to a complete four-year college or university education, preferably in the Arts or Business marketing or sales.
- Minimum 4 years of proven success in a group sales role
- History of leading and managing a team in group sales position, including direct and indirect supervision of staff
- Strategic thinker who has the ability to link products with opportunities and develop creative packaging solutions that meet the organizations long-range goals.
- An established broad network of professional contacts within the group sales industry.
- Considerable judgment to work independently toward results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that reflect ability to motivate others toward reaching organizational objectives.
- Knowledge of classical music and the symphony field preferred. An appreciation for classical music required.

Vice President for Artistic Administration
REPORTS TO: President and Executive Director
Position Summary:
The Vice President for Artistic Administration is responsible for directing, administering and coordinating activities of the artistic administration department and of the artistic planning nature. This includes engaging guest artists and developing concert programs in consultation with the Music Director and members of the executive team.
Essential Functions Include:
- Determine annual schedule for all Orchestra rehearsals and concerts, consistent with the musicians’ Master Agreement, in consultation with the Music Director, President and Executive Director and other members of the executive team.
- With the Music Director, and in consultation with the President and Executive Director, engage guest conductors.
- With the Music Director, and where appropriate in consultation with members of the executive team, engage guest artists for all concerts.
- Determine availability and negotiate fees for all guest artists, within approved financial parameters.
- Work with the Music Director, President and Executive Director and guest artists, in consultation with other executive team members, to develop concert programs that help the SLSO achieve its sales and revenue goals and its audience development objectives.
- Lead Artistic Administration Department in long-range planning as part of institutional strategic planning process.
- Direct, administer and coordinate activities of the Artistic Administration Department; supervise Chorus Managers, Librarian and Artistic staff.
- Oversee functions and related activities of the Saint Louis Symphony Chorus, Saint Louis Symphony IN UNISON® Chorus and Orchestra library.
- Plan and negotiate Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra commissioned works.
- Keep current with global activities of all major guest soloists and conductors.
- Work as liaison with the Community Partnership and Education department on related activities.
- Work collaboratively with other cultural organizations in St. Louis, including, but not limited to Opera Theatre St. Louis, the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, the St. Louis Art Museum and the University of Missouri – St. Louis Touhill Performing Arts Center.
- Prepare, maintain and manage the annual artistic budget.
Position Requires:
- Broad and deep knowledge of orchestral repertoire and classical music artists. Knowledge of popular artists and music also desirable.
- Minimum 3 years experience in artistic planning.
- Willingness to work collaboratively with a strong executive management team and all departments and constituents of the SLSO.
- Sensitivity to audience-building efforts.
- Familiarity with symphony orchestra operations.
- Excellent attention to detail with ability to work at a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work with confidential data.
- Self-initiative, a sense of humor, diplomacy and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of constituents.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
