St. Louis Symphony Orchestra announces updated to 2024/2025 season, including complete film line up, special performances, concerts for kids, and two chamber music series

(June 5, 2024, St. Louis, MO) – Today, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra announced additional programming for its 2024/2025 season, the orchestra’s 145th and sixth with Music Director Stéphane Denève. In addition to previously announced classical and holiday concerts, 24/25 concerts include performances of the scores to six films, specials that explore a variety of genres in the context of symphonic music, Concerts for Kids introducing music to children ages 3-10, and chamber music series that shine a spotlight on the talents of SLSO musicians.

Subscriptions and subscription add-on concerts are available now at slso.org. Single tickets for all films, holiday concerts, and specials go on sale today at slso.org.  Single tickets for most other 24/25 concerts will be available at slso.org in July.

While the SLSO continues the transformational expansion and renovation of its historic home at Powell Hall, the orchestra will perform throughout the St. Louis region, with programming that showcases the magical sound of the SLSO at locations including the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, Stifel Theatre in downtown St. Louis, the J. Scheidegger Center for Performing Arts at Lindenwood University, The Sheldon, the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, and The Pillsbury Theatre at Washington University’s 560 Music Center.

Films with Live Score
Popular presentations of films with the SLSO performing the score live returns for six programs at Stifel Theatre, with four scores performed by the SLSO for the first time alongside two returning favorites.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, score by John Williams, conducted by Denève (September 21-22, 2024)
The SLSO revisits the unforgettable adventure of Elliott and his friend E.T. in Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece, as the orchestra performs John Williams’ Academy Award®-winning score live. SLSO Music Director Stéphane Denève conducts this score, which had a formative impact on his musical life.

Disney/Pixar’s Coco, score by Michael Giacchino (November 2-3, 2024)
Disney/Pixar’s Coco celebrates the ageless power of music, featuring Michael Giacchino’s magical score where every melody is a memory, and every song is a bridge between worlds.

The Muppet Christmas Carol, score by Miles Goodman (December 14-15, 2024)
Back by popular demand, the Muppets, led by Kermit, help Ebenezer Scrooge rediscover the spirit of Christmas in this enchanting family film, based on the beloved story by Charles Dickens.

NEWLY ANNOUNCED—Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon, score by John Powell (December 28-29, 2024)
When a young Viking befriends a ferocious dragon, they must fight against all odds to save both their worlds. This film for the entire family combines humor, fire-breathing action, and epic adventure with John Powell’s Oscar®-nominated score. 

Casino Royale, score by David Arnold (March 8-9, 2025)
The world of James Bond, portrayed by Daniel Craig in his first turn as 007, comes to new life through David Arnold’s gripping score. Bond is on assignment to play against a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes poker game at the Casino Royale in Montenegro.

NEWLY ANNOUNCEDBatman, score by Danny Elfman (April 4 & 6, 2025)
Tim Burton’s iconic take on Batman—featuring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Kim Basinger—tells the story of the legendary Caped Crusader™, accompanied by one of composer Danny Elfman’s most exhilarating scores. 

Specials and holiday concerts
Special SLSO performances cross genres in collaboration with a range of artists, all within the context of symphonic music. Specials are held at Stifel Theatre, unless otherwise noted.

NEWLY ANNOUNCED—Symphonie Electronique (September 28, 2024)
The night club meets classical music in this unique fusion experience. DJ and composer Mason Bates as DJ Masonic, along with St. Louis-based DJ Alexis Tucci, create a genre-defying electronic dance music party with SLSO musicians and the audience. A Grammy award-winning composer, Bates breaks new ground in how classical music can be experienced through new sounds and technology. Held at The Hawthorn in downtown St. Louis.

A Baroque Christmas (December 6-7, 2024)
The SLSO heralds the holidays with Baroque music of power and beauty by J.S. Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, and more. Two SLSO musicians—Associate Principal Violist Alejandro Valdepeñas and piccolo player Ann Choomack—take center stage for concertos by Georg Philipp Telemann and Antonio Vivaldi. Held at The Pillsbury Theatre at Washington University’s 560 Music Center in University City. Produced in partnership with the Department of Music, Washington University in St. Louis.

NEWLY ANNOUNCED—Celtic Woman Christmas Symphony (December 8, 2024)
Multi-platinum Irish singing sensation Celtic Woman, Billboard’s #1 World Music Artist of the Year six times, joins the SLSO for a joyful and captivating evening featuring some of the all-female ensemble’s favorite Yuletide songs in a dramatic fusion of Irish musical tradition and symphony orchestra. 

IN UNISON Christmas with Take 6 (December 13, 2024)
Grammy Award-winning a cappella group Take 6 joins the SLSO and the SLSO IN UNISON Chorus for a soulful celebration of the holidays, blending gospel, jazz, and traditional favorites with their unparalleled harmonies.

Mercy Holiday Celebration (December 17-18 and 21-22, 2024)
Norman Huynh, a favorite guest conductor, and acclaimed vocalist Capathia Jenkins spread holiday cheer alongside the SLSO in performances of seasonal standards and exciting twists on beloved classics. Held at the J. Scheidegger Center for Performing Arts at Lindenwood University in St. Charles (December 17-18) and Stifel Theatre in downtown St. Louis (December 21-22).

New Year’s Eve Celebration (December 31, 2024)
Kick off your New Year’s Eve festivities with a celebration of the year that was and the year to come, filled with surprise selections of classical and popular favorites. Stephanie Childress, former SLSO Assistant Conductor, returns to conduct this tradition.

Lift Every Voice: Black History Month Celebration (February 28, 2025)
Tony Award-winning vocalist Brian Stokes Mitchell joins the orchestra and the IN UNISON Chorus for a joyful celebration of Black History Month that explores the variety and depth of Black musical expression.

NEWLY ANNOUNCED—Disney Princess: The Concert (May 8-9, 2025)
The enchanting world of Disney Princesses, including Jasmine, Ariel, Pocahontas, and Moana, comes to life on Mother’s Day weekend, featuring Broadway and TV stars performing timeless melodies from beloved Disney films.

Concerts for Kids
A staple of SLSO programming for decades, Concerts for Kids (formerly known as Family Concerts) in the 24/25 season include a trio of programs. Concerts for Kids are inclusive of people with sensory sensitivities. Accommodations will be provided so that everyone may enjoy the experience of live orchestral music. Prior to all Concerts for Kids, the SLSO and Symphony Volunteer Association host engaging pre-concert activities. Single tickets for these concerts go on sale July 10, 2024.

Two concerts designed for families with children ages 5-10, held at UMSL’s Touhill Performing Arts Center, include:

Dan Brown’s Wild Symphony (October 5, 2024)
Embark on a musical adventure with Dan Brown’s latest surprise, Wild Symphony. This captivating story from the New York Times bestselling author of The Da Vinci Code, illustrated by Susan Batori, follows Maestro Mouse and his animal friends. The SLSO teams up with the Saint Louis Zoo for this wild adventure.

Mo Willem’s Because (March 23, 2025)
The New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Mo Willems’ tale of a young girl’s journey to center stage comes to life through music and theater. Beautifully complemented by Amber Ren’s illustrations and Jessie Montgomery’s music, the SLSO and Metro Theater Company share this story of chance, persistence, and magic.

Designed for children ages 3-6, the third Concert for Kids engages the youngest audiences through a combination of music and movement, held at The Sheldon.

The Tortoise and the Hare (March 29, 2025—two concerts)
Based on the book The Tortoise and the Hare by Jenny Broom, illustrated by Nahta Nój, the audience is invited to sing, dance, and perform along with the classic tale in this tale brought to life by the SLSO and Center of Creative Arts (COCA).

St. Louis Symphony Orchestra: Live at the Pulitzer
Sustaining its unwavering commitment to today’s musical voices, the SLSO partners with the Pulitzer Arts Foundation for a three-concert series presenting bold and adventurous chamber music—an enduring partnership begun in 2004.

The 24/25 Live at the Pulitzer series will be curated for the second season by St. Louis-based composer Christopher Stark, whose programming has been praised for its variety and virtuosity. An exploration of the intersection of art and music, programming responds to the art on display at the museum. Concerts push the boundary of chamber music, often using unique instrumentation or immersive artistic experiences. Concert dates are November 12, 2024, January 28, 2025, and April 8, 2025.

St. Louis Symphony Orchestra: Live at The Sheldon
Called the “hottest ticket in town” (St. Louis American), the Live at The Sheldon chamber music series returns for its second season, showcasing the talents of SLSO musicians in smaller groups at The Sheldon, the SLSO’s Grand Center neighbor. Curated and performed by SLSO musicians, the series spotlights the curators and the instruments they play, with programming that spans the entire chamber music library, from beloved standards to the first performances of music by emerging composers.

The inaugural season of Live at The Sheldon drew full houses and acclaim from critics. 24/25 season concerts include:
