Donor Spotlight: Dr. Ute Rajathurai, Bayer and SLSO Trustee
Since 1992, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s IN UNISON program has built bridges with predominantly Black communities across the St. Louis region. Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the US, has been a key IN UNISON partner since the program’s inception, giving more than $8 million in support.
The SLSO is grateful for Bayer Fund’s partnership, which has been vital to the IN UNISON program and our mission of enriching lives through the power of music, fostering a vibrant and connected community.
The SLSO recently welcomed Dr. Ute Rajathurai, Chief Procurement Officer at Bayer Crop Science, to its Board of Trustees. Rajathurai has actively supported the SLSO’s mission since moving to St. Louis from Germany, where she is also president of the Bayer Men’s Choir e.V.

Rajathurai said her early immersion in classical music instilled an appreciation for creativity, empathy, and meaning.
“Classical music has shaped who I am—how I listen, lead, and connect people,” she said. “Joining the SLSO Board of Trustees feels like coming full circle, supporting an institution that not only pursues artistic excellence, but also understands music as a force for belonging, dignity, and community.”
Rajathurai remains dedicated to advancing Bayer Fund’s support for the SLSO, particularly the IN UNISON Chorus and its community programs.
“What excites me most about IN UNISON is how deeply it is rooted in community,” she said. “It’s not about bringing music to people, but building something with them. That approach, grounded in trust, representation, and opportunity, is exactly how lasting impact is created.”
