About this Concert

Love, loss, redemption, and enlightenment. Kris Bowers’ work, For a Younger Self, was inspired by the hero’s journey and the electrifying artistry of violinist Charles Yang, who makes an exciting return to Powell Hall. Miguel Farías paints a dynamic portrait of life in the southernmost region of South America. And Sergei Rachmaninoff recounts his own life’s journey in a capstone work, Symphonic Dances, which serves as a poignant, powerful anthology of musical memories.

- Kris Bowers’ music has been heard by tens of millions of people in the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton, for which he is the primary composer. He has also composed the scores for films such as Green Book, The Wild Robot, and The Color Purple. For a Younger Self is Bowers’ first work written for a concert setting.
- Violinist Charles Yang is a member of the award-winning ensemble, Time for Three. Reviewers have exclaimed that Yang “plays classical violin with the charisma of a rock star” (Boston Globe) and is “a true crossover artist” (The Texas Observer).
- In addition to his award-winning conducting, Paolo Bortolameolli is a published author and the founder and artistic director of a youth orchestra program and educational residency called Sinfónica Azteca in Mexico.
