About this Concert

The St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra concludes its season with an expansive yet intimate program full of emotional contrast. Samuel Barber’s introspective, brilliant Violin Concerto opens with a stirring performance from violinist Samuel Wenger-Stickelhigh school senior and winner of the 2026 YO Concerto Competition. Kaija Saariaho’s Ciel d’hiver follows with a shift in mood and atmosphere, as delicate orchestral colors evoke the quiet expanse of a winter sky. The journey culminates in the bold, impassioned drama of Jean Sibelius’ First Symphony, unfolding from a solitary clarinet call into a sweeping, triumphant finale fitting for the YO’s last performance of the 25/26 season.
