About this Concert

From radiant light to distant worlds, the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra takes audiences on a sweeping journey of cosmic imagination in its second performance of the season. Kevin Puts’ Hymn to the Sun opens the program with a glowing expression of reverence, capturing the sun’s life-giving power through shimmering textures that evoke light, vitality, and renewal. Gustav Holst’s monumental The Planets follows, charting a sweeping astrological voyage from the ferocity of “Mars” to the ethereal stillness of “Neptune,” performed alongside the St. Louis Symphony Chorus in its first collaboration with the YO. Together, these works transform Powell Hall into a vast celestial landscape of elemental power, mysticism, and transcendence.

Youth Orchestra programs are presented by the Tynewald Foundation and supported in part by the G.A., Jr. and Kathryn M. Buder Charitable Foundation, Gateway Metro Federal Credit Union, and the ESCO Technologies Foundation.
