Follow Along with the Powell Hall Expansion and Renovation

January 23, 2025

The SLSO’s dozens of percussion instruments will move out of any available nook and cranny and into organized new storage spaces with the renovation and expansion of Powell Hall. Recently, steel supports were installed in the dedicated Percussion Room located in the back of house expansion, part of a holistic plan to provide better storage for the SLSO’s many priceless instruments.

The Percussion Room will store everything from drums to xylophones and marimbas to small, hand-held instruments like maracas, tambourines, and cymbals. The new percussion room is one of several new storage spaces dedicated to instruments. Other new spaces include a harp room, a timpani room, large instrument (double bass and cellos) storage, and a keyboard room.

New storage will more adequately protect the SLSO’s instruments in the back of house expansion.
