Follow Along with the Powell Hall Expansion and Renovation

October 24, 2024

As the expansion and renovation of Powell Hall continues, amenities are being added to maintain St. Louis as an international destination for musicians. This includes adding twelve practice rooms for musicians—a new amenity at the Midtown venue. Previously, musicians would utilize space where they could find it to warm up or practice, including the boiler room, stairwells, and even outside.

New musician practice rooms on the third, fourth, and fifth floors are coming to life.

When the Jack C. Taylor Music Center opens in September 2025, musicians will have access to the acoustically fortified spaces to prepare for the more than 100 concerts the orchestra presents annually. The spaces will also serve as a resource for the SLSO’s education programs—most notably the Peer to Peer program, an education program that pairs young musicians with their counterparts in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and SLSO musicians for weekly learning and coaching sessions.

Drywall has been erected in some of the practice spaces located on the third, fourth and fifth floors of Powell Hall.
