Clayton High School

Bethany Lai, sixteen years old, began learning piano at age six under the tutelage of the late Laura Schindler. Her favorite recent experience includes performing in a masterclass as a winner in St. Louis, and she eagerly anticipates her first season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Bethany has also played in various ensembles in the Community Music School of Webster University, such as the Preparatory Program and Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra.

Aside from piano, Bethany carries an affection for writing and language. Her poems appear in numerous publications as a winner of regional and state competitions; she serves on the editorial board for the school newspaper and the literary arts magazine; and she enjoys writing to her pen pals. She also loves yoga, meditation, art, philosophy, and playing violin in the Clayton High School Symphonic Orchestra.

Bethany thanks Shen Wen, Sam Moraes—her violin teacher, her friends, and her family for their compassion and guidance in her musical journey. She commits all her past and future accomplishments in piano to the memory of dear Mrs. Schindler.
