Christopher Shucart II
Christopher Shucart is a 19-year-old percussionist currently attending Jefferson College for his associate’s in fine arts – Music. This is Shucart’s first year with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, currently serving as a percussion alternate. Shucart has been playing drum set and percussion for 8 years, most of which was spent studying Jazz Drum Set and Concert Percussion. Shucart has looked up to the musicians of the St. Louis Symphony and the YO for years, this year being his first time auditioning for the group.
Shucart’s main performing groups are his own Jazz quintet, Shukazzii, and the various jazz and concert groups Jefferson College has to offer, and now the YO. Chris also serves as the NAfME president for Jefferson College’s chapter. Shucart’s various other hobbies include playing video games, biking, and writing music in his off time.
Shucart would like to thank his high school band directors Mr. Darrell and Mrs. Samatha Boyer, and Mr. Chris Howard, who helped capture and curate Shucart’s love and dedication for music and music education. He would like to thank his mother Megan Hall, who showed up to every single performance and helped fund his musical journey so far. Shucart would also like to think his current directors – Dr. Joel Vanderhyden, Mr. Ron Sikes, Dr. Elke Overton, and Mr. Dustin Shrum. He wouldn’t be where he is now without these people in his life guiding him in the right direction.
