Gavin Leech

Collinsville High School

Gavin Leech, 17-year-old Collinsville High School senior, is incredibly honored to perform in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra this concert season. This will be his first season with the SLSYO, and it will be his first time ever performing in an orchestra.

Gavin Leech has been playing the trombone since 5th grade and has been in love with it ever since thanks to his many supportive and inspiring teachers. Throughout his many years of playing, his musical achievements include the ILMEA District 6 Jazz Festival, SIUE Bi State Festival Band, Mckendree Brass Chamber Band, U of I’s Superstate Concert Band Festival, St. Louis Youth Wind Symphony, St. Louis Academy Brass Band, and his school’s Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Brass Quintet.

Outside of playing the trombone, Gavin is heavily committed to the study of classics and even serves on the State Board of the Illinois Junior Classical League. Gavin also enjoys playing with his cats and spending time with his friends in his free time.

Gavin would like to thank all of his friends who were there for him and who supported his musical goals, and his goal to participate in the SLSYO. He is also thankful for the support of his family since the beginning of his study of the trombone. Gavin would also like to thank his band directors Mr. Calza, Mr. Alexander, Mr. Deleon, Mr. Goetter, and his private teacher Michael Pond Jones for their unyielding support, encouragement, and assistance throughout his musical journey.
