George Goad
George Goad plays second trumpet with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Prior to the SLSO, Goad was a member of the Kansas City Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he has been a guest performer with the Detroit Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Symphony (Washington D.C.), the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to orchestral playing, Goad is active as a solo artist, frequently playing recitals and pursuing concerto opportunities with large ensemble. Most recently, he was featured playing Eric Ewazen’s Concerto for Trumpet and Strings and John Williams’ With Malice Toward None with the Flint Symphony. He has also been featured as the soloist on the Hummel and Haydn trumpet concertos with the Saginaw Bay and Midland (Michigan) Symphony Orchestras.
Goad received his bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia studying with David Bilger and is also a graduate of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he received his master’s degree under the tutelage of Barbara Butler and Charlie Geyer. Following his years of education, he spent a year as a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. He spent summers at the National Repertory Orchestra, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Tanglewood Music Center.
He grew up in Rockford, Michigan, where he studied with Aaron Good and Gregory Good in his early years. When away from the trumpet, Goad is an avid endurance athlete and can often be found with his wife exploring the outdoors, or training for a race.
