Portrait of Hannah Mathew

Youth Orchestra

Hannah Mathew

Parkway Central High School

Hannah Mathew, age 15, is a junior at Parkway Central High School. She started playing the cello at the age of nine and this is her first year with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. However, her musical career first began when she began playing the piano at five. Since then, Hannah’s orchestra experience includes playing with Community Webster School’s Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra for a season. She is also a part of her high school’s Symphonic Orchestra, which had the honor to play at Carnegie Hall in April. She is also part of the Tri-M Honors Music society. In addition, she volunteers at local hospitals and nursing homes playing both the piano and cello.

Outside of music, Hannah loves to play tennis and kayak in Creve Coeur Lake. Hannah is an avid reader and writer and loves to learn through reading. She also loves to travel to expand her knowledge of different cultures and way of living. It has been a very enriching experience for her. She also enjoys spending time with her family, especially her two younger siblings.

Hannah would like to thank those who have inspired her in her musical journey: Mr. David Kim, her cello teacher and mentor, her piano teacher, Dr. Soo Kyung Kim, her school orchestra director, Mrs. Alicia Bont, and her family.
