Henry Skolnick
Hank Skolnick has had a varied career in performance, teaching, music publishing, and as an orchestral librarian. He joined the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in 2011, and currently holds the title of Associate Librarian. He trained as a bassoonist in Miami, London, and Berlin. Early in his professional life he was the Librarian of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, where he also played bassoon and contrabassoon. During his time in South Florida he founded the music publishing house Bassoon Heritage Edition, a specialty publisher of bassoon music. That firm eventually grew to include Miami Music Editions which published music by living composers. He has also been a contributing editor for various other publishers including Prairie Dawg Press and Accolade Musikverlag.
As a performer, Skolnick was a member of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra in Miami for 18 years and taught bassoon and wind chamber music at Florida International University for 15 years. He has been on the summer faculty at Interlochen Arts Camp since 2004. In addition to his years in the Florida Philharmonic, he has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Boston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Palm Beach Opera, the Kansas City Symphony, the Colorado Symphony, the Miami Chamber Symphony, the Florida Grand Opera Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestra Berlin.
He currently serves as Co-Principal Bassoon of Sinfonia da Camera, in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. On the baroque bassoon, he performs with Collegium Vocale and The Kingsbury Ensemble.
