Kimmi Lin

Ladue Horton Watkins High School

Kimmi Lin is a senior at the Ladue Horton Watkins High School and is excited to return for her fourth season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. She began playing drum set at age 7 and started studying orchestral and solo percussion at age 11 under the tutelage of Tim and Kurena Crockett.

Over the past 5 years, Lin has played with several ensembles in the greater St. Louis area, including the YO, Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra, and Town & Country Symphony Orchestra. She was the winner of both the YPSO and TCSO concerto competitions in 2023. Lin has held principal positions in the Missouri All-State Orchestra, serving as the first chair timpani in 2023 and 2024, and first chair percussion in 2025. In summer 2024, she performed across Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore as a full-scholarship recipient with the National Symphony Youth Orchestra (Taiwan). Most recently, she was selected to join the National Youth Orchestra of the USA (NYO2) in the summer of 2025, performing at Carnegie Hall and the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland. Outside of music, Lin enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, watching K-dramas, and making DIY crafts.

Lin is grateful to her many talented and dedicated teachers, past and present: Tim Crockett (percussion), Kurena Yamaguchi Crockett (marimba), high school percussion teacher Erin Elstner, and current instructors Alan Stewart and Shannon Wood.
