Shulynn Ragland

Alternate
John Burroughs School

Shulynn Ragland is 15 years old and a sophomore at John Burroughs School. She has been playing violin for 11 years. This is Shulynn’s first year as an alternate with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Growing up, she has played with all four levels of Community Music School of Webster University’s orchestra programs for over 8 years. She has been concertmaster of YPCO and recently assistant concertmaster of YPSO. Additionally, she has been part of Metropolitan Orchestra’s Share the Stand program for 3 years. She also plays in John Burroughs School’s advanced orchestra.

Along with the violin, Shulynn has been figure skating for 9 years, and now competes with St. Louis Synergy for synchronized skating. She also has been learning the piano for 7 years. Additionally, she volunteers with her church for children’s work every week. She also enjoys swimming, traveling, learning Chinese, and spending time in nature.

There are many people Shulynn would like to thank for their support and contributions over the years: Joseph Kamisky, her private instructor, for all his wonderful teaching and encouragement. All her conductors with CMS: Nancy Daby, Sarah Klevorn, and Patrick Jackson. Anita Hagerman, her school orchestra director, and especially her family, for their unconditional love and for always believing in her.
