Sylvia Kennedy

Clayton High School

Sylvia Kennedy is a 17-year-old Senior at Clayton High School. She is a member of her school’s Symphonic Orchestra and Tri-M Honors Music Society. This is her second season in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Kennedy began playing the cello at age 10 studying with Cathie Lehr Ramos and also takes lessons with Kurt Baldwin. For the past four years, she has been a member of the CMS Preparatory Program and plays in a competitive quartet. This year, she will be a part of the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis Chamber Academy. For the past two years, she has attended the Arianna Chamber Music Festival and this summer she attended Madeline Island Chamber Musical Festival and International Cello Institute at St. Olaf College. Kennedy has had the privilege to play in masterclasses for Andrei Ionita and Brannon Cho.

She would like to thank Cathie Lehr Ramos, Kurt Baldwin, Hiroko Yoshida, the Arianna String Quartet, Vera Parkin, Daniel Henderson, and her family and friends for their support throughout her musical journey.

In her free time, Kennedy enjoys creating art, hanging out with her friends, and riding horses.
