Sylvia Kennedy

Clayton High School

Sylvia Kennedy, 16, is a junior at Clayton High School and has been playing the cello for six years. She is a member of her school’s Symphonic Orchestra and Tri-M Honors Music Society. This is her first season in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Sylvia began her musical journey at age three taking violin lessons with Hiroko Yoshida, then switched to cello at age ten and has been studying with Catherine Lehr Ramos through the Community Music School of Webster University ever since. For the past three years, she has been a member of the CMS Preparatory Program. This summer, she attended the Arianna Chamber Music Festival, and also played as a student member of the Metropolitan Orchestra of Saint Louis in their 2024 Summer Season.

In her free time, Sylvia enjoys creating art, hanging out with her friends, and riding horses. She would like to thank Cathie Lehr Ramos, Hiroko Yoshida, the Arianna String Quartet, Vera Parkin, Daniel Henderson, and her family and friends for their support throughout her musical journey.
