Youth Orchestra
Taochi Margaret Leung
Taochi Margaret Leung, 17, is a senior at Ladue Horton Watkins High School. This is her third season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Taochi began playing the cello at the age of five under the instruction of Ms. Mary Lou Gotman, inspired by a friend’s encouragement. Since 2018, she has been studying with Dr. Jun Seo.
Taochi finds great joy in playing in orchestras and chamber groups. She has participated in her school orchestra and has been an integral part of the Community Music School of Webster University Orchestra program for seven years, progressing from the String Ensemble to the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra. Additionally, she has been a member of the Missouri All-State Orchestra.
Beyond her involvement with the CMS orchestras, Taochi performs with various chamber groups and is enrolled in the Prep Program at CMS. She is also a member of her school’s Strolling Strings, a student orchestral club that provides community performances. Taochi actively collaborates with other young musicians at church events.
In her free time, Taochi enjoys camping, hiking, drawing, worldbuilding, and spending time with family and friends.
Taochi’s musical journey and passion for the art have been nurtured by the unwavering support of her family, friends, and esteemed teachers. She is deeply grateful to her family and would especially like to thank Dr. Jun Seo, Ms. Mary Lou Gotman, Mr. Patrick Jackson, Ms. Vera Parkin, and Ms. Twinda Murry for their guidance and encouragement. The 2024/25 season marks Taochi’s third year as a cellist in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, and she is excited and honored to be part of this prestigious ensemble. The experience with SLSYO has inspired Taochi to pursue a major in music in college.
