The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra has named Pamela Calero Wardell as its next Chief Philanthropy Officer, bringing a seasoned arts fundraising executive to a leadership role at a pivotal moment for the institution.

Wardell will join the SLSO on July 20, overseeing the organization’s fundraising strategy and philanthropic initiatives as it continues to expand its impact following the reopening of Powell Hall in the Jack C. Taylor Music Center in September 2025.

Most recently, Wardell served as Vice President of Development for the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., where she helped lead fundraising efforts for one of the nation’s premier orchestras. Her career in arts leadership also includes senior development roles at the Jacksonville Symphony and a decade as Executive Director of the Ocala Symphony, where she helped establish the Reilly Arts Center.

For SLSO leadership, Wardell’s appointment reflects a forward-thinking vision as the institution advances its long-term vision for artistic excellence, community engagement, and accessibility.

“Pamela has a strong knowledge of symphonic music and the orchestra industry, and her alignment with our mission makes her an ideal fit for the SLSO team and St. Louis,” said Nancy Galvin, Chair of the SLSO Board of Trustees. “I look forward to partnering with her as we advance the philanthropic efforts of the SLSO.”

SLSO President and CEO Marie-Hélène Bernard described Wardell as a leader with deep experience in fundraising and organizational growth, arriving at an important chapter in the orchestra’s history.

“With the reopening of Powell Hall at the Jack C. Taylor Music Center, she joins the SLSO at a pivotal time of institutional growth as the organization approaches its 150th anniversary,” Bernard said.

In her new role, Wardell will lead comprehensive fundraising efforts across annual giving, corporate philanthropy, planned giving, and endowment-building strategies, while guiding teams focused on donor engagement and long-term financial sustainability.

Wardell said she was drawn to the SLSO not only by its artistic reputation, but by its strong connection to the St. Louis community.

“What drew me to the SLSO was not only its extraordinary artistic reputation, but the deep connection it shares with the community,” Wardell said. “Music has a unique way of bringing people together, and the SLSO does that at the highest level.”

She added that she looks forward to working alongside supporters and donors to strengthen the orchestra’s artistic, educational, and community initiatives while making St. Louis home for her family.

Wardell holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from the University of Florida and a Master of Business Administration from Webster University. She is also an alumna of the Anne Parsons Leadership Program of the League of American Orchestras and completed the organization’s Essentials of Orchestra Management program at The Juilliard School.

Her appointment follows the interim leadership of arts consultant John Easley, who has served as Chief Philanthropy Officer since July 2025.
