Donor Sotlight: Robert Williams

Robert Lee “Bob” Williams was a devoted supporter of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for many decades as a loyal subscriber, a valued member of the Advisory Council, and ultimately as a Legacy Circle donor.
Band classes cultivated Williams love of classical music early in life, as he played the trumpet from fourth through twelfth grade. He delighted in sharing his passion for music with others, inviting friends and newcomers to attend performances. He often purchased tickets so others could experience the orchestra for the first time.
Humble and generous, Williams did not seek recognition. He gave wholeheartedly, motivated by a deep belief in music’s power to enrich lives and strengthen community. He was inspired by the vision for the renovation and expansion of Powell Hall, recognizing how a renewed home would support the SLSO’s artistry and serve as a vibrant center for music and community in St. Louis. He also believed deeply in the importance of growing the orchestra’s endowment to ensure long-term stability and support the SLSO in its new home.
Although Williams passed away before the opening of the Jack C. Taylor Music Center, his vision for the future of the SLSO lives on through a significant planned gift. Overlooking the Berges Family Grand Lobby, the Robert L. Williams Mezzanine Terrace pays tribute to Bob’s extraordinary generosity, serving as a lasting reminder that his legacy will enable music to continue to inspire and enrich future generations.
