SVA Committees
We are delighted that you are interested in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Volunteer Association (SVA). As a member, you’ll enjoy benefits when volunteering at concert events, meeting musicians, special programs, social events, making friends and, best of all, the joy of giving back!
Learn more about the various committees you can get involved in below.
Executive Committees
- Communications: Keep SVA members appraised of SLSO/SVA news and events.
- Photography: Take pictures of SVA activities for communications and history.
- Technology: Assist the SVA and members with technology and data needs.
Education Committees
- Education Ambassadors: Greet, assist, and direct teachers, students, and parents/caregivers at education and family concerts, staff education programs and activities both at Powell Hall and in area schools.
- Express the Music: Help facilitate the curation, act as docents for chosen works, host the ceremony, and display entries for the Express the Music showcase.
- Picture the Music: Participate in the Picture the Music competition, where you will help facilitate judging, act as docents for chosen works, host the awards ceremony, and display art work. Activities will take place at multiple venues.
- Youth Orchestra Support: Provide support for YO events including auditions, check-in assistance, refreshments, performances, and other activities as requested.
Membership Committees
- Hospitality: Bake, package, and deliver treats to SLSO staff, musicians, and choruses.
- Meetings and Events: Plan and execute SVA events at various venues.
- Membership Engagement: Send greetings to members from home.
- New & Prospective: Seek and welcome new members.
- Mentors: Guide new members on how to get involved and start volunteering.
- Pick & Choose: Participate in a variety of one-time needs of the SLSO staff and volunteer committees. This includes assisting with the photo lines at Holiday Concerts.
Philanthropy Committees
- Advocacy: Contact legislators to promote funding for the arts.
- Ambassador: Participate in welcoming and hospitality opportunities.
- Coffee Concerts: Greet patrons while serving donuts and coffee.
- Friends of Music: Make thank you calls to donors from home.
- Group Host: Greet and direct small groups and shuttle buses for coffee concerts, and as needed.
- Shuttle Host: Check in patron riders and accompany the concert shuttle bus from Plaza Frontenac to the concert venue and the return at the concert’s end.
- Symphony Shop: Assist with a variety of tasks supporting the SLSO gift shop including sales, sourcing, and inventory.
- Tours: Lead tours through Powell Hall and the Jack C. Taylor Music Center.
