About this Concert

Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony opens in sweeping grandeur, its radiant horn calls setting the stage for one of the composer’s most beloved and evocative works. Frequent SLSO guest conductor David Danzmayr leads the orchestra through the romantic, chivalrous symphony, which resonates through the grand spaces of Powell Hall. And our own Principal Bassoonist, Andrew Cuneo, takes center stage for a new bassoon concerto by longtime SLSO collaborator, composer Kevin Puts.

- Kevin Puts has been one of the SLSO’s closest artistic collaborators for more than two decades. In September 2025, the SLSO released a new album featuring three world premiere recordings of Puts’ music.
- While many symphonic composers started sketching out their first music ideas as children or in school, Anton Bruckner was an exception. He began his career as an organist and did not begin writing orchestral works until he was 37 years old.
- Kevin Puts’ new Bassoon Concerto was co-commissioned by the SLSO along with the Minnesota Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. Each of these orchestras has a long history of musical partnership with Puts.
