About this Concert
This dazzling sonic journey explores powerful natural phenomena through music. Dalia Stasevska, admired for “unbridled, animated conducting” (Süddeutsche Zeitung) makes her SLSO debut with Debussy’s La Mer, a breathtaking evocation of a day on the ever-moving, wondrous sea. Multi-talented artist Aphrodite Patoulidou performs Luciano Berio’s Folk Songs and introduces Sibelius’ Luonnotar with an improvisation on the nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish keyed fiddle.
-
- Born in Kyiv to Ukrainian and Finnish parents, Dalia Stasevska has worked continually since 2022 to raise awareness, provide aid, and raise funds for Ukrainian people affected by war.
- The nyckelharpa is a traditional Swedish instrument with a history of more than 600 years. Built with 16 strings and 37 keys, and played with a bow, it is often described most simply as a keyed fiddle.
- Aphrodite Patoulidou’s creative abilities span far beyond the orchestral stage. An accomplished painter, she often exhibits one of her works of art, Luonnotar, at concerts where she sings Sibelius’ piece of the same title.
