Orchestra

Charlie Lin

Charlie Lin joined the first violin section of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in September 2024, an appointment made by Stéphane Denève. Beginning his musical studies at age 6, he made his stage debut at an early age alongside the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. As an enthusiastic student, Lin pursued a career in medicine, and currently holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Violin Performance from Northwestern University, then studying under Gerardo Ribeiro. There, Lin secured research grants to pursue research into kidney disease and worked closely with the Zheng and Abecassis Labs as a microsurgery technician at the Northwestern Feinberg Memorial Hospital, eventually publishing research in medical journals such as Kidney International.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Lin decided to pursue a life in music, obtaining a Master of Music degree and a Graduate Certificate in Performance from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, under the tutelage of Glenn Dicterow. While doing so, Lin worked as an avid freelance musician in the greater Los Angeles area, working alongside various film recording studios and event artist agencies, as well as performing on festival stages such as Coachella and with premiere orchestras including the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) under the baton of Jaime Martin and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra (LBSO) under the baton of Eckart Preu.

Lin also recently toured Japan with the 2022 Pacific Music Festival orchestra under the baton of Ken-David Masur and Lahav Shani.
