Elias Lai

Elias Lai is a senior at Clayton High School and a percussionist in his third season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He has been playing percussion for seven years and is grateful for the opportunity to continue growing as a musician alongside his fellow members. 

Lai has been selected for the Missouri All-State Orchestra twice and the Missouri All-State Band once. He has also performed with the Community Music School (CMS) of Webster University’s Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra, including a performance at Carnegie Hall, and has participated in the CMS Summer Mood Percussion Ensemble and the Strike Institute Percussion Camp. Some of Lai’s most meaningful musical experiences have come from the connections he has made through music. He values the friendships, collaboration, and shared pursuit of growth that make each ensemble experience unique. 

Outside of music, Lai enjoys playing tennis, experimenting with new recipes, and traveling with his family. He is sincerely grateful to the many people who have supported his musical journey, especially his private instructor, Michael Faris, his school percussion specialist, Noah Petti, and his family for their constant encouragement.
