Youth Orchestra
Elias Lai
Elias Lai is a sophomore from Clayton High School and is excited to play percussion as a full-time percussionist with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He has been playing percussion for four years and this marks his first year with the SLSYO.
Elias has played in various bands, orchestras, and ensembles, including the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra, the Young People’s Concert Orchestra, the Middle School All-Suburban band, and the High School All-Suburban band. He also enjoys participating in the Community Music School Summer Mood Percussion Ensemble and attending the Strike Institute Percussion camp.
Apart from music, Elias enjoys playing tennis with his brother, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and traveling the world with his family.
He is deeply grateful to his friends, family, and mentors, including his past and current percussion instructors. Mr. Faris, his private instructor, Mr. Petti, the school’s current percussion specialist, and Ms. Shelley, the past percussion specialist, have supported him on his percussion journey and pushed him to become a better musician. He also thanks his family for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout his musical pursuits.
