Elias Lai

Clayton High School

Elias Lai is a junior at Clayton High School and a percussionist in his second season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He has been playing percussion for five years and is eager to continue growing as a musician through the YO.

Lai has performed with the Missouri All-State Orchestra and the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra, which recently appeared at Carnegie Hall. He has also been a member of the Young People’s Concert Orchestra, the Middle School and High School All-Suburban Bands, and has participated in summer programs such as the Community Music School’s Summer Mood Percussion Ensemble and the Strike Institute Percussion Camp.

Outside of music, Lai enjoys playing tennis with his brother, experimenting with new recipes, and traveling with his family. He is deeply grateful to the many people who have supported his musical journey, including his private instructor Mr. Faris, school percussion specialist Mr. Petti, and especially his family for their constant encouragement.
