Youth Orchestra
Eric Mao
Eric Mao is a senior attending Ladue Horton Watkins High School. He has been playing the double bass for three years and this is his third season with the Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Mao has been selected for the bass section of the Missouri All-State orchestra last year, with the position of Assistant Principal.
Mao discovered the bass after being drawn to its large frame and deep tone after hearing his cousin play it. Although a little bit late at the age of fourteen, he was able to quickly progress his learning under the nurturing care of Twinda Murry, his school’s conductor, and Don Martin. Outside of playing the bass, he enjoys hanging out with his friends and playing sports.
Mao would like to thank all of the teachers and conductors he is currently working with and has worked with in the past. Especially his teacher, Brendan Fitzgerald, and former teacher, Don Martin. He is also incredibly grateful for his family who have continued to push and support him in playing the double bass.
