Youth Orchestra
Eric Mao
Eric Mao is a junior attending Ladue Horton Watkins High School. He has been playing the double bass for 2 years and this is his second season with the SLSYO. Before joining the YO, Eric was in the All-Suburban Orchestra group for his first year playing the double bass.
Eric started playing the bass to follow in his older cousin Alex’s footsteps. He immediately enjoyed playing the double bass because of its deep tone and size and quit piano. He is grateful for his first bass teacher, former SLSO double bassist, Donald Martin, whose combination of patience and knowledge helped foster his love for the instrument. He also thanks Ms. Murry for giving him opportunities to accelerate his growth in the classroom. At school, he is a bassist for Ladue’s Strolling Strings and a baseball player.
Eric would like to thank all the music teachers he has worked with, even outside of the SLSYO and Ladue. He is also thankful for his family for always supporting his sudden decision to switch instruments and his friends who always encouraged him to push himself into more advanced groups.
