Portrait of Eric Mao

Youth Orchestra

Eric Mao

Ladue Horton Watkins High School

Eric attends the Ladue Horton Watkins High School and he will be a sophomore in the 2023/2024 school year. This is Eric’s first time playing with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and his first year playing the bass. He is looking forward to playing with SLSYO in order to gain more experience in orchestras as this is the second orchestra that he has joined, the first being the All Suburban Orchestra. Eric also enjoys playing baseball and is a catcher for the Ladue JV team. He also has a Yorkie Poo (Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle) named Puffball.

Furthermore, Eric thanks his teacher, Don Martin, for helping him grow so quickly as a bass player and continuing to push him forward with new material. He also thanks his parents, Ray and Mary, for supporting his decision to switch instruments and always being there to push him through tough times. Lastly, Eric thanks his cousin, Alex, for being his motivation to switch instruments and always being a supporting figure and role model for him to follow.
