Kai Montgomery

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville

Kai Montgomery, 23, is an undergraduate student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville pursuing a degree in music performance. She has been playing bass for 12 years and is currently studying under Brendan Fitzgerald. This is her fifth season in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.

During her high school years, Montgomery participated in many music programs in the St. Louis area, including the preparatory program at The Community Music School of Webster University and the Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis. She currently plays with the SIUE Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Mishra.

Outside of playing bass, she enjoys singing a wide range of music, from grunge to opera, as well as writing her own songs. Beyond music, Montgomery enjoys writing, fashion, spending time with her friends, and exploring the world around her.

Montgomery would like to thank her instructor, Brendan Fitzgerald, for offering her new opportunities to learn and further her musicianship; her vocal coach, Lisa Campbell Albert, for providing new perspectives on music and pushing her to pursue higher education; and her parents for always supporting and encouraging her.
