Weilu Zhang

In 2023, Weilu Zhang joined the first violin section of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra after serving as a one-year replacement member in the 2022/2023 season.Born in Wuhan, China, Zhang began studying violin at the age of six. In 2003, she was accepted into the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School, studying with Weidong Tong. She made her debut performing Mozart Violin Concerto No.3 with the China National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing Concert Hall in 2006, as a winner of the Mozart Piano and Violin Competition for Young Musicians. In 2012, Zhang was accepted into the Advanced Performance Program of Mount Royal University in Calgary, Canada, where she studied with Bill Van der Sloot. 

Zhang holds a Bachelor of Music degree from New England Conservatory, studying with Nicholas Kitchen, a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University, studying with Gerardo Ribeiro, and a Graduate Certificate degree from University of Southern California, studying with Bing Wang. She has participated in various festivals with full scholarship including the Morningside Music Bridge, Meadowmount School of Music, Pacific Music Festival, and Tanglewood Music Festival.  

Zhang has served as a member of several orchestras, including the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Boston philharmonic Orchestra, and Atlantic Orchestra.
