Evin Gamage

Evin Gamage is 16-year-old French hornist and is a junior at Francis Howell North High School. He is playing at the St Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra for his first season.  

Gamage has been playing horn for 5 years, first picking it up in middle school. He played in the St. Charles County Youth Orchestra for 2 years, serving as principal during his second year. Gamage has been selected for the St. Louis Metro 8 district band since 7th grade, performing as principal for 3 years. Gamage participated in both district and state solo and ensemble, receiving silver at the state level in his freshman year, and gold his sophomore year. 

Gamage chose the horn because it sounded both melodic and grandiose. He enjoys the variability of horns being used for soft and delicate parts as well as imposing pieces. Aside from Horn, Gamage has been playing guitar since he was 6. He also enjoys competitive swimming and playing recreational hockey.  

Gamage owes what he has accomplished to his parents, as not only did they support him financially, but they have also always shown up to Gamage’s events, whether it be a concert or just practice. He also wants to thank his private teacher, Ms. Keely O’Hara Abeln, for not only giving musical guidance, but for being a mentor and helping Gamage push through even when no one else thought he could do so.
