Charles Yong

Charles Yong, a high school sophomore at Marquette High School, is joining the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra for his first season. He originally started music with the piano but decided to pick up the trumpet in middle school. After that, he switched to the French horn due to its uniqueness compared to other brass instruments and its rich sound. He has been playing the horn for four years now and excited to be a member of the YO horn section. 

Outside of YO, Yong has played the horn for both the Middle School and High School All-Suburban Bands. In addition to music, he is deeply involved with math and science, participating in and performing well in many competitions such as MATHCOUNTS and the AMC competition series. 

Yong would like to thank his private instructor, Thomas Jöstlein, and his band director, Christian Pierce, who have both helped him become a more competent and confident musician. He would also like to thank his family for supporting him throughout his music journey.
