Elijah Spurbeck

Providence Academy

Elijah Spurbeck is a tenor trombonist in his second season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. A senior at Lafayette Classical Academy, he began playing trombone in the third grade and soon discovered a lasting passion for music. He credits much of his early musical growth to his middle school band director, Matthew Janssen. He later studied with Tyler Vahldick and currently studies with Amanda Stewart, Associate Principal Trombone of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Beyond the Youth Orchestra, Spurbeck accompanies Festal Divine Services at his Lutheran parish and performs with Sanctus Winds, a community wind band devoted to sacred repertoire. Away from the orchestra and the classroom, he enjoys hiking, biking, and reading.

Spurbeck is grateful for the chance to make music at a high level with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He looks forward to the season ahead—working with gifted peers and continuing to grow as both a musician and a collaborator.
