Youth Orchestra
Caleb San
Caleb San is a 15-year-old sophomore at De Smet Jesuit High School and has been playing the trombone since the age of ten. It will be his second year performing in a classical ensemble, as he participated in the Community Music School of Webster University’s Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra last year before auditioning for the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. San is excited for his first year as a member of the YO.
San also enjoys jazz and made the St. Louis Metro 8 district jazz band as second chair and the callback round for the All-State Jazz Band as a freshman. San has just recently auditioned for Jazz U St. Louis and will be joining them for their upcoming season. Outside of trombone, San has also been playing the piano for 8 years. He was awarded this year’s Steinway Gallery Piano Scholarship. He also enjoys drawing, writing, and playing tennis for his school’s varsity team.
San is appreciative of all who have guided him through his ongoing musical journey. He is thankful for his trombone instructor, John Sorsen, his piano instructor, Vera Parkin, his band teachers Blake Korte, Michael Steep, Charlie Mosley, and his family, for supporting him each and every day. Finally, he is especially grateful for God’s guidance throughout his life and continues to trust in His plans, leading to whichever path He pleases.
