Youth Orchestra
Lukas Boone
Lukas Boone, age 16, is a junior at Springfield High School in Springfield, Illinois. He has been playing French horn for six years and is excited for his first year in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra as an alternate. In addition to horn, he plays mellophone, trombone, bass trombone, and guitar.
Boone participates in his high school marching band, concert band, and jazz band. He is the principal horn with the Illinois Symphony Youth Orchestra and is a member of the University of Illinois-Springfield Orchestra, as well as the Springfield Municipal Band. He has had the opportunity to play in the ILMEA All-District Band, Orchestra, and Senior Jazz festivals.
While all things music is Boone’ passion, he also enjoys participating in the JROTC program at his high school where he is a LET 3 First Sergeant. Boone enjoys performing with the JROTC color guard, attending JCLC camp, and giving back to the community. He also serves as a student representative with the Family & Community Engagement District 186 Team and the Superintendent Roundtable.
Boone would like to thank his instructors: Thomas Jöstlein, Lindsey Daniels, Jacobsen Woollen, Lucy Boucher, Richard Hayes, Joseph Tiemann, and Michael Baier for all their guidance, encouragement and ongoing support. He would also like to send a special thank you to his parents, extended family, friends and his mentors, Dr. Terrance Jordan and SFC (Ret.) Marcell Upshaw, for their continued support.
