Miyu Kubo
Miyu Kubo was appointed to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s first violin section in 2025. Originally from Tokyo, Kubo moved to the United States at the age of 15 to attend Interlochen Arts Academy, where she won first prize in the school’s Concerto Competition and performed as a soloist with the school orchestra. She completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at The Juilliard School in 2024 as a recipient of the C.V. Starr Scholarship, Irene Worth Scholarship, The Tomoko Scholarship, and Lilly Z. Foldes Scholarship.
As a chamber musician, she has participated in programs such as the Ozawa International Chamber Music Academy in Okushiga and the Heifetz Institute. Since 2023, she has been a member of the International Sejong Soloists, performing at New York’s Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Seoul Arts Center with conductor Earl Lee, New York Philharmonic concertmaster Frank Huang, and Metropolitan Opera concertmaster David Chan.
As an orchestral player, Kubo served as concertmaster during Juilliard’s Kennedy Center tour and was also concertmaster for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the Tanglewood Music Festival season finale. As a soloist, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall while in high school as a prize winner of the Cecilia International Music Competition. She also performed with the Hamano JACK Orchestra, comprised of NHK Symphony Orchestra members, after winning the Hamano JACK Concerto Soloist Audition.
Kubo most recently attended the Yale School of Music since fall of 2024. Her principal teachers include Joseph Lin, Hyo Kang, Masao Kawasaki, Soovin Kim, Andres Cardenes and Asako Yoshikawa.
