Sarah Hogan Kaiser
Sarah Hogan Kaiser is a St. Louis native and has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra since September 2004. She received her Bachelor of Music Performance degree in double bass with a minor in Mathematics from Indiana University in 2000, where she was a student of Lawrence Hurst. In 2003, she received her Master of Music Performance degree as a student of Tim Pitts from Rice University in Houston, Texas. During the 2003/04 season, Kaiser performed with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach prior to starting her tenure with the SLSO.
Kaiser has served as Principal Double Bass for the Colorado Music Festival, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. Committed to music education, she has served as a clinician at Indiana University, the University of Illinois, and Illinois State University, and maintains a small private bass studio.
A product of the Parkway School District, Kaiser started playing the bass at age 10 after deciding the violin wasn’t quite the right fit (obviously too small!).  As a young bassist, she studied privately for many years with Henry Loew, the former Principal Double Bass of the SLSO, as well as with Carolyn White, the former Associate Principal Double Bass.  She is a proud alumnus of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Beyond her time in the orchestra, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and sheepadoodle dog, and loves to keep active. Â She has participated in half marathons, triathlons, and masters swimming events.
