Teddy Gabrielides

Teddy Gabrielides was appointed to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra double bass section in 2026. Originally from suburban Chicago, he began his double bass studies at age 10 in the public school system. His first teachers were Andrew Harmon and Jason Heath. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Music at the USC Thornton School of Music studying under David Allen Moore, and then pursued his graduate studies at DePaul University where he studied with Alex Hanna. Gabrielides attended Domaine Forget and the Aspen Music Festival several times each, and served as co-principal bass of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.  

Before coming to St. Louis, Gabrielides played for a year in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. For several years he was a regular substitute in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, with whom he played on tours both domestic and international. He has also performed in the Minnesota Orchestra, Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra, and Grant Park Orchestra.   

In the orchestra, he performs on a bass built in 1791 by English maker William Forster III. For other performances he plays a bass made for him in 2011 by Arnold Schnitzer. He plays German bows made by Bernard Walke and Robert Dow.  

Gabrielides lives in Benton Park with his rescue dog Stig, a senior Husky mix who enjoys long walks all around St. Louis.
