Portrait of Joy Shin

Youth Orchestra

Joy Shin

Parkway West High School

Joy Shin is 14 years old and a Parkway West High School freshman. This is her first year playing in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. She has been playing viola for 5 years and has participated in different music programs such as the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra at the Webster Community Music School, Credo St. Louis, All-Suburban, and her middle school orchestra. She’ll be playing in West High’s Symphonic Orchestra as well.

Besides the viola, she learned the piano for 8 years and enjoyed making music in her spare time. She also likes to be active, whether biking around the neighborhood or shooting hoops in the driveway. Along with sports, she appreciates a good book and will always take recommendations.

Joy would like to thank her viola teacher Rebecca Pantano for being so supportive and encouraging, as well as her past piano teacher Dr. Sunghee Hinners who built the foundation for her musical skills that led her to where she is now.
