About this Concert
The St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and Music Director Samuel Hollister return to the Powell Hall stage with a program full of drama, energy, and vivid storytelling. Grażyna Bacewicz’s wartime Overture sets the story in motion with rhythmic momentum and triumphant fanfares that counter darkness with blazing light. Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 follows, transporting listeners from the peaceful dawn of “Morning Mood” to the mounting tension of “In the Hall of the Mountain King.” The concert culminates with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the beloved orchestral retelling of tales from One Thousand and One Nights that brings the season opener to an exhilarating close.
