Elizabeth Babcock’

St. Charles West High School

This is Elizabeth Babcock’s first year in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Babcock began playing piano in second grade under the instruction of Mrs. Jacqueline Fortier. Those early piano lessons initiated a love of music that has continued to grow over the last ten years. Babcock joined concert band on the clarinet in sixth grade, but quickly switched to oboe, loving its rich chocolatey tones and the challenges of playing a double reed. She has been receiving private instruction from Mrs. Cathy Woebling-Paul for the last three years.

As a student at St. Charles West High School, Babcock participates in the marching band, leading the percussion ensemble as the center marimba. She serves as the band president and loves helping other students find their voice. Babcock also runs varsity cross country and varsity track and field.

Outside of school, Babcock has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, creating a robust meal kit program for food pantries. Babcock has participated in the St. Charles County Youth Orchestra for the past three years and is the principal oboist for their Symphony ensemble. In her free time, Babcock enjoys painting, hanging out with friends, and listening to all kinds of music. She is grateful for all the love and support of her family, friends, and instructors, who encourage her in all her endeavors.
