Sutherland Allen

Sutherland Allen is a student of Dr. Robert Jordan at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville studying Music Performance.  Under the direction of Dr. Michael Mishra, Sutherland plays Principal Bassoon in the SIUE Orchestra.  Sutherland lives in Highland, Illinois and is also a member of the Highland Municipal Band. This will be Sutherland’s first year in the Saint Louis Youth Orchestra.

The director of the Highland Middle School band, Gregory Allen, helped Sutherland decide to make the switch from French Horn to Bassoon in the 6th grade.  After the switch, with some encouragement from Gregory Allen, he began lessons with Hope Watts and then Dave Metzger on the Bassoon. He would like to thank all the teachers that helped guide him to where he is now. He would also like to thank his family for their constant support.

When Sutherland is not playing with fantastic musicians, he enjoys being outside cycling and playing tennis.
