Jacob Philipak

Jacob Philipak is a senior at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL), where he is pursuing a double major in Music Education and Music Performance. A prominent figure in the university’s music department, he serves as Principal Clarinet of both the UMSL Symphony Orchestra and the UMSL Wind Ensemble, and also performs with the UMSL Triton Sound Pep Band. Jacob is thrilled to be joining the St. Louis Youth Symphony Orchestra for his first season.  

An accomplished young artist, Jacob’s recent accolades include winning the 2024 UMSL Young Artist Competition and the Kirkwood Presbyterian Con Spirito Competition, as well as earning an honorable mention at the Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition. In addition to his collegiate and competitive success, he has performed professionally at numerous events throughout the greater St. Louis area. As both a dedicated performer and educator, he remains deeply committed to musical excellence, artistry, and continued growth in his craft.  

Outside of his academic and performance commitments, Jacob enjoys watching baseball and actively listening to and studying classical music. He is incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of his family, teachers, and mentors—particularly Professor Jeanine York-Garesche and Dr. David Wacyk—whose guidance continues to shape his development as a musician.
