Jackson Liu

Jackson Liu is a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis, where he studies finance and economics. Originally from the Seattle area, Liu is excited to begin his first season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He began playing the flute in third grade and has since discovered his passion for music.  

Before coming to St. Louis, Liu served as principal flute of the Evergreen Philharmonic. He placed in the top three at the Seattle Flute Society’s Frank and Lu Horsfall Competition for three consecutive years and won third place at the Washington State Music Teachers National Association Competition. 

Outside of music, Liu enjoys golfing, hiking, and following the financial market. He is very thankful to all his mentors who have supported him throughout his musical journey. These include his flute teachers Zongyuan Li, Celine Ferland, Demarre McGill, and Jennifer Gartley, as well as his orchestra director, Leah Weitzsacker.
