Eric Chang

John Burroughs School

Eric Chang is an eighth grader at John Burroughs School. Having started violin at five, he currently studies under the instructions of Mr. Pavel Ilyashov. Chang has achieved several notable success in competitions, including two-time state winner of the MMTA String Solo Competition, the Alternate of the MTNA State Junior String Competition, one of the winners of the Town and Country Young Artist Concerto competition, and a co-winner of the Artist Presentation Society Young Artist Competition. Chang served as the Concertmaster of YPCO, is the Concertmaster of his school’s orchestra, and has been a member of the Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2023.  

Chang was invited to attend the Vivace Music Festival in North Carolina last summer, and is selected to participate in thte summer violin institute at  Bienne music school of Northwestern university, and the The Heifetz International Music Institute in Virginia. 

Chang is deeply grateful for the support of his brother, parents, grandparents, private teachers, and all the conductors he has worked with at CMS. Outside of music, he enjoys playing soccer and tennis, reading, and spending time with his friends.

An avid orchestral musician, Chang served as Concertmaster of both his school orchestra and the YPCO and has been a member of the Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2023. Last summer, he was invited to the Vivace Music Festival in North Carolina and has been selected for prestigious programs this summer, including the Bienen School of Music’s Violin Institute at Northwestern University and the Heifetz International Music Institute in Virginia. 

Chang is deeply grateful for the support of his family, teachers, and the conductors at CMS and his school. Outside of music, he enjoys soccer, tennis, reading, and time with friends.
