Shang Jiang

Washington University in St. Louis

Shang Jiang is an incoming freshman at Washington University in St. Louis and a flutist in his second season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra (YO). He began playing the flute in fifth grade and has studied privately for the past three years. Jiang has served as principal flutist for both the Missouri All-State Orchestra and the Community Music School of Webster University’s Young People’s Symphony Orchestra. He also participated in the CMS Preparatory Program and substituted for the Adult Chamber Music Intensive with the Missouri Chamber Music Festival. Outside of music, Jiang loves weightlifting, cooking, reading philosophy, and hiking.

Jiang would like to thank Katie Solomon for introducing him to the flute world and expresses gratitude to his high school band directors, Aaron Lehde and Lucas Albert for their encouragement. Above all, he credits his successes to his private instructor Nadine Hur for nurturing his talent and providing unwavering support.
