Daneil Tossey
Daneil Tossey is a 17-year-old rising senior at Edwardsville High School. This is his first season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He began playing the clarinet when he was 9 years old.
Tossey has been a member of the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra (YPSO) at the Community Music School of Webster University, the Alton Youth Symphony (AYS) where he was selected as the concerto soloist in 8th grade. In 7th grade Tossey was awarded with a full scholarship to the Illinois Summer Youth Music Program in Champaign, IL. Tossey has also performed in the ILMEA All-District Band, the ILMA All-State Honor Band, and Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville’s (SIUE) Bi-State festival. Tossey has been a member of the school marching band and principal clarinet player of his high school symphonic orchestra since he was a freshman.
Tossey’s interests outside of music include running cross-country, working with origami, coding, computers and spending time with his siblings. He would like to thank his school band directors Ryan Lipscomb and Dean Anderson, his private clarinet teacher Kelly Austermann, former teacher Carrie Henrichs, as well as his parents and grandparents for their generous and committed support through the years.
