Griffin Ray

Griffin Ray is a 17-year-old junior at Fort Zumwalt West High School. He began studying piano at age seven and cello at age eleven. During his sophomore year, Ray enrolled in both orchestra and music theory, further developing his interests in performance and composition. His original orchestral work, Suburban Storm, was premiered at Fort Zumwalt West High School. He looks forward to his first season performing with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and becoming part of the YO community. 

Ray has been selected as an alternate for the Missouri All-State Orchestra, received the G.A. Jr. and Kathryn M. Buder Charitable Foundation Scholarship, and placed second in the Mike Russo Concerto Competition. He also teaches beginner cello students and studies with Dr. Jun Seo at the Community Music School of Webster University. 

Ray is grateful to Richard Goodman, Daniel Mieloch, Jenina Kenessey, Jun Seo, Patrick Dell, and the many other teachers and clinicians who have guided his musical development through lessons, rehearsals, and masterclasses.
