Adam Yu
Adam Yu is a 14 year-old freshman at Clayton High School. He first started playing piano at age 5, but fell in love with the violin at 4th grade when his elementary school offered a string program during the Pandemic. He has been studying with Xiaoxiao Qiang since early 2022. This is Yu’s first season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, and he is honored to join such an accomplished ensemble.
Yu played in every string program at school since 4th grade and He is currently a member of the Clayton High School Symphonic Orchestra. He also played in Webster University Community Music School’s String Orchestra, YPCO, and YPSO consecutively. He was co-concert master of YPCO and participated in YPSO’s debut performance in Carnegie Hall, April 2025. Yu earned 2nd Place in his age group in the World’s Best Haydn Performance Competition and received multiple honor ratings at the St.Louis MMEA Festival. In the summer of 2024, he attended the prestigious Interlochen Summer Music Festival, where he studied under Anne Misener, and attended a master class by Ray Chen. He also attended Webster University’s Chamber Music camp multiple times.
Outside of playing violin, he enjoys sports, spending time with friends and family, and listening to classical music. He is grateful for his teacher Xiaoxiao Qiang, past conductors and teachers, family, and his pet dog Mozart for their ongoing support and encouragement.
