Andrew Fei
Andrew Fei is a sophomore at John Burroughs School and is excited to join the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra for his second season.
Fei began studying violin at age four and has studied with Rebecca Chung, Marilyn Park-Ellington, and David Liu. He has performed with several Community Music School (CMS) of Webster University’s orchestras, including the String Ensemble, Young People’s Concert and Symphonic Orchestras, and served as co-concertmaster of his middle school orchestra. Fei is also a member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Orchestra’s Sharing-the-Stand program. In 2025, he received the Missouri Federation of Music Clubs District IV’s Virtuoso Club Camp Scholarship.
Fei has attended Credo St. Louis for three consecutive years and participated in the Credo National Festival in Chicago in 2024. In the fall of 2025, he was drawn to the viola due to its warm, resonant sound and the collaborative role it plays in the orchestra. He feels incredibly fortunate to study viola with Beth Guterman Chu. In 2025, Fei was selected for the Missouri All-State Honorable Mention Orchestra on both violin and viola.
Fei also enjoys composing music. From 2021 to 2023, he attended the CMS Summer Composition Intensive, studying with John Thomas. He has also studied music theory with David Hamilton. Outside of music, he enjoys reading and playing video games in his free time.
Fei is grateful to all his current and past teachers, mentors Joseph Kaminsky and Vera Parkin, orchestra directors, and parents for supporting him throughout his musical journey.
