Youth Orchestra
Isabel Lau
Isabel Lau is a sophomore at Parkway Central High School and is excited to begin her first year with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Lau started playing violin at five years old, studying for seven years with Jessica Hellewedge before transitioning to her current instructor, Hannah Ji.
Over the years, Lau has participated in various ensemble and competitive experiences. She has been an active member of the Community Music School of Webster University, performing with both the Young People’s Concert Orchestra and the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra. She also played in her high school’s Symphonic Orchestra and recently attended the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis’ Chamber Academy. A major highlight of her musical journey includes winning the MMTA violin competition in sixth grade, and most recently, she was honored to perform with the Missouri All-State Orchestra in 2026.
Outside of her musical pursuits, Lau enjoys playing tennis, reading, listening to music and playing with her three dogs. She is deeply grateful for the incredible guidance of her past and current teachers, Jessica Hellewedge and Hannah Ji, as well as Emily Ho’s additional mentorship, and would like to thank her parents for their continuous support through her musical journey.
